January, 2023
Here’s some of the pledges that our clients and friends are making as we head into 2023. And for help sticking to your goals, an expert panel including behavioural scientist Ayelet Fishback offers some interesting advice. Worth a read here.
Doug Stewart, CEO, Green Energy UK
Entering 2023, I disappointingly find myself setting out things I’d wish for, rather than make a resolution which I think should be about actions that bring about change. So trying really hard to find something I can achieve that will bring about both change and benefits to all, is to continue to campaign for OFGEM to not just ring fence customer money inside energy companies but to prevent suppliers taking deposits and upfront DDs before the provision of any service or energy. That I believe will make the world a better place, putting consumers in charge of their own money, and preventing businesses from using their customers as a cheap source of finance! What’s not to like? 2023 doesn’t have to be all about bad news.

Get a later train (in the morning). Spend at least an hour a week chatting to the latest intake of graduates. Aim to hit the annual business target by September. Think big. Take controlled risks. Welcome ideas from everyone. Buy Richard lunch. Get an earlier train (in the evening).

Nick Hughes, Director of Marketing & Communications, SEGRO
I have modest ambitions this year: learn French so I speak like a native of Toulouse; master the ukulele and get asked to play on Katie Melua’s new album; finish an Ironman in less than 10 hours; read one Penguin Classic every day; take up tap-dancing; and do a part-time Masters in Astrophysics. Should be fairly straightforward…

“…patience is a virtue, and I haven’t got enough of it!”

For me, 2023 is the year of being better – in every way. I strive constantly to be better in every facet of my life; growth is purposeful.
Across the three spheres of my life: family, personally and business.
Personally, it’s all about a healthy body and healthy mind: exercise my muscles, exercise my mind. With a goal of 150 workouts, doing a learning course and reading with copious curiosity.
In terms of family, it’s about connection and listening. We are busy people with a transatlantic lifestyle and need to schedule and spend non-device time, at least two weeks on holiday together. This means listening to hear, not to answer. Helping and supporting each other. Being kind and loving each other.
And in business, it’s all about how I lead – from the front and by example. Inspire, challenge and serve my team. Learn from the people I work with and help them to help each other to operate in their professional potential, creating a great place to work.
